Photovoltaic has entered the application of marine scenarios

At the China New Energy Power Development Forum held in Chengdu on March 2,Zhang Shishu, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of China Electric Power Construction Group Chengdu Survey and Design Research Institute Co.,Ltd.,said that at present, photovoltaic has entered the application of marine scenarios, while offshore wind power has moved from offshore to the deep sea,and integrated water and landscape bases have gradually emerged.Photovoltaic application scenarios are getting wider and wider, and the situation is becoming more diversified.

With the support of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals,in recent years, the new energy industry has ushered in a new cycle of rapid development, and the photovoltaic market has also ushered in an increasingly hot market.According to the latest statistics from the National Energy Administration,China's new installed photovoltaic capacity will reach 87.41GW in 2022,a record high, and it has ranked first in the world for 10 consecutive years;the cumulative installed capacity has reached 392.61GW,becoming the country's third largest source of electricity after thermal power and hydropower, and the gap with HYDROPOWER,which ranks second,is less than 21GW.

However, while China's photovoltaic industry is ushering in a high-gloss moment, there are also many problems and challenges. In the eastern coastal areas, where the economy is developed and the population is densely populated, and the demand for electricity is large, the construction of large-scale onshore photovoltaic projects is unlikely to be realized. Therefore,at present, the main large-scale photovoltaic power generation is concentrated in the sparsely populated western part, and then through the west-to-east transmission project, the power from the western part is transmitted to the eastern part, thereby alleviating the problem of power shortage in coastal cities. The direct installation of photovoltaic panels on the sea surface near the electricity-consuming province to generate electricity is of course more cost-effective in terms of transmission costs.

In addition,China's photovoltaic industry is facing unprecedented strict supervision. In May 2022,the Ministry of Water Resources issued the"Guiding Opinions on Strengthening the Control of Shoreline Space in Rivers and Lakes",which made it clear that projects such as photovoltaic and wind power generation shall not be built in rivers, lakes,or reservoirs. With the strict inspection of complementary agricultural and light projects by local governments, the challenges faced by the development of new energy projects in the central and eastern regions have become more and more prominent.

As a result, the eastern coastal areas of our country have set their sights on the development of photovoltaic to the vast ocean in the eastern part of our country.According to the Ocean Energy Development Center of the National Ocean Technology Center, the coastline of our mainland is 18,000 kilometers long.According to theoretical research, the area of the sea where offshore photovoltaic can be installed is about 710,000 square kilometers.According to the ratio of 1/1000,it is estimated that the installed capacity of offshore photovoltaic can be installed exceeds 70GW.

It is understood that offshore photovoltaic refers to photovoltaic power plants established on the sea surface. It is a new type of utilization method of photovoltaic power generation. The biggest difference between it and onshore photovoltaic is that it does not occupy agricultural land and only uses the existing sea surface to build power stations.

“Usually large-scale onshore photovoltaic projects need to occupy more land area and land resources, and offshore photovoltaic power generation is a new energy utilization method and resource development model. It is to move photovoltaic power stations from land to sea and use photovoltaic technology to establish power stations on the ocean. It has the characteristics of high power generation capacity, low land occupation, and easy integration with other industries."Zhao Yue,deputy head of the Offshore Photovoltaic Technology Group of China Electric Construction Group East China Survey and Design Research Institute Co.,Ltd.,introduced it at the 2022 China Photovoltaic Industry Annual Conference held recently.

Public information shows that at present, offshore photovoltaic can be mainly divided into two categories:fixed pile foundation and floating type, and the tentacles of China's photovoltaic industry have extended to the ocean.Among them,Shandong is the most active. In addition,Jiangsu,Zhejiang,Liaoning and Guangdong have planned offshore photovoltaic projects. As of the end of May 2022,China has confirmed a total of 28 offshore photovoltaic projects, with a cumulative confirmed area of more than 1,600 hectares.
